PIVOT/BDEP Storytelling Event
PIVOT: Explorations of Transformation – Event Recap
Thank you to everyone who joined us for PIVOT: Explorations of Transformation and supported the Butte Defense Equity Project's first community fundraising event.
This collaborative event between PIVOT and BDEP, hosted by Joaquin Jordan, brought community members together to explore important questions: Are people capable of change, and what does it take? What crucial moments lead to personal transformation? What decisions lead someone into and out of the criminal legal system?
Attendees heard powerful stories from storytellers Janet Goodson and Tom Dearmore, who shared their experiences of overcoming significant obstacles and transforming their lives. Their reflections offered meaningful insight into resilience, growth, and change.
PIVOT supported BDEP's mission to transform a criminal legal system that too often benefits those with wealth into one that truly delivers justice for all. Events like this help us foster public education and community engagement while addressing stereotypes about people with criminal histories and highlighting inequities within the legal system.
We are grateful to everyone who attended, donated, volunteered, and helped make this event a success. This was the first of many community events we plan to host, and we look forward to continuing these important conversations with our community.
